My husband is out of town and the neighbor is starting to check on me a little too often.?
He is married and the first couple weeks it was nothing, just an occasional stop in with his wife and kids. He was very polite and I adore his wife. Now he calls at least twice a day to see if I need anything, is trying to set up times to get our kids together to play and beeping several times a day (even late at night) when he drives by. I started to become uncomfortable with this so I ignored his phone calls yesterday and today, and both times he showed up at the house. I really appreciate someone caring as it is really hard for me to get to the store with my kids, but I’m starting to feel a little suffocated here. I have not told my husband as I don’t want him to worry and there is a big part of me that is wondering if maybe I’m just taking the wrong impression from a guy who’s just trying to look out for his neighbor. But bottom line, I don’t want to spend time alone with him, and he can’t seem to take no for an answer. How do I word this tactfully without hurting anyone?
Sounds like your warning radar is going off in the red. Mine would be too, he seems really creepy.
Definitely call your husband and ask him to call and tell your neighbor in a ‘guy to guy’ nice way that he isn’t needed to stop by so much.
That is assuming you’ve already told this guy to back off. If not, give him one more chance, tell your husband anyway and then if he doesn’t honor your request, tell your husband to please step in.
Your neighbor might resent the “intrusion” of your husband and might also be embarrassed and so try to belittle his intrusive behavior, but don’t let that bother you. Obviously the guy is not very considerate of other people’s feelings or needs or he would have respected your privacy to begin with.
Don’t expect that he’ll be your best-buddy neighbor afterwards, but then what’s the loss?
